Late-day thermals rising north of Ellensburg, WA, July 2021. We were wrapping up an enjoyable and productive day of shooting when this scene took place. The sun is setting in the direction behind me, and because of this, the thermal clouds are lit brilliantly. The light slowly drained from the sky after this, as the sun set over the following hour or so.
The few dead-ish looking trees in this image are exactly that: dead. This is an area which has been swept hard by bark beetle infestations over the past decade.
Image is with the Leica M Tyo 240 camera & trusty Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH lens.
